About us
We’re a family who like to keep busy: hockey, rugby, the gym and filling the house with people, plus Cornwall and the mountains every year. This site is where we keep the stories, photos and the odd recipe.
How this site is built
A family website should be pleasant to use and shouldn’t give much away. We built this one to do both.
Private by design
- No cookies, analytics or tracking. Nothing records who you are or what you read here.
- No third parties. Fonts, images and code are all served from this site, so visiting doesn’t tell any other company you were here.
- Photos and videos are cleaned. Everything is re-processed before it goes online, which removes hidden camera data such as GPS location and the time it was taken. Video clips have no sound, so there are no background conversations.
- We share carefully. First names only, no schools or home details, and fixtures are written up after the event rather than announced ahead of it.
Locked down
- HTTPS everywhere, with HSTS so browsers never fall back to an unencrypted connection.
- A strict Content Security Policy. The browser will only run code and load files that come from this site.
- A static site. There are no logins, databases or forms to attack, just plain pages.
Easy for everyone
- Built for accessibility (WCAG 2.2 AA) and checked automatically on every build: readable contrast, keyboard navigation, visible focus and meaningful labels for screen readers.
- Works without JavaScript. Scripts only make things quicker, such as filtering stories without reloading the page.
- Fast and light. Images are resized for your screen, videos only download when you press play and never autoplay, and the site follows your device’s light or dark mode and reduced-motion settings.
